The Ceremony commenced as scheduled, and after the opening, the Preceptory received the Provincial Sub-Prior, who was warmly welcomed with the appropriate salutes. This was the Sub-Prior’s first meeting in his new post — affectionately christened as his ‘virgin’ meeting.

Knight Ben Fitzpatrick was installed as Eminent Preceptor, with the outgoing Preceptor, E.Kt. Peter Ball, acting as Installing Preceptor and conducting an excellent ceremony throughout. Knight Fitzpatrick was installed as Eminent Preceptor in the Order of the Temple, followed by his installation as Prior in the Order of Malta. The Officers were subsequently appointed and invested in the customary manner.

The ceremony was conducted by the Marshall, V.E.Kt. Michael Jolly, whose skill and precision were a credit to the Preceptory and the Order. The surroundings of the Keep Temple added further to the splendour of the evening.

Following the ceremony, a superb Festive Board took place, filled with good humour and fraternal camaraderie. The Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard turned out in force, contributing to the lively and convivial atmosphere.

Overall, it was a most enjoyable evening for all in attendance. Ampthill Preceptory now looks forward to hosting the Annual and Malta meetings next year.
