Ampthill Preceptory 260 Welcomes a New Knight and Celebrates Distinguished Service
The meeting of the Ampthill Preceptory on 4 June 2026 proved to be a memorable and successful occasion, marked by outstanding ritual work, a significant accolade, and a well-deserved honour bestowed upon a distinguished Brother Knight.
A particularly pleasing feature of the evening was the strong support shown by members of the Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard, who attended the meeting in considerable numbers. Their presence added both dignity and occasion to the proceedings and demonstrated the high regard in which the Preceptory is held throughout the Province.
A highlight of the meeting was the exceptional work undertaken by the Eminent Preceptor and officers of the Preceptory in conducting the ceremony to bring in a new Knight, Gareth Iestyn Smith. The ceremony was carried out to an exemplary standard, reflecting the dedication, preparation, and commitment of all involved. The candidate was welcomed into the Order in a manner that did great credit to the Preceptory and left a lasting impression on all present.
Adding further distinction to the occasion, the Accolade was conferred by the Right Eminent Knight Roger Wortley, whose presence and participation enhanced an already memorable ceremony. His delivery of this important part of the proceedings was greatly appreciated by members and visitors alike.
The meeting also witnessed a special moment of recognition when the Provincial Prior RE Kt Stephen Churchill announced a field appointment for Eminent Knight Lee Freeman. In acknowledgement of his loyal and dedicated service as Commander of the Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard, he was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Second Constable. The announcement was warmly received and met with enthusiastic approval from those present, particularly by the many members of the Bodyguard in attendance.
Following the formal business of the evening, members and guests retired to enjoy an excellent Festive Board. Good fellowship, lively conversation, and camaraderie were very much in evidence, providing a fitting conclusion to a highly successful meeting.
The evening demonstrated once again the strength and vitality of Ampthill Preceptory, combining excellent ceremonial work, recognition of service, strong provincial support, and the warm fraternal spirit that continues to characterise the Order. Members departed having witnessed a noteworthy occasion that will undoubtedly be remembered for many years to come.
