United Priors Preceptory No. 240 – Installation Meeting in Huntingdon
On Tuesday 28th April, the brethren of United Priors Preceptory No. 240 gathered in Huntingdon for a distinguished and memorable Installation meeting, marking an important occasion in the life of the Preceptory.
Proceedings commenced promptly at 6:15pm, with the Eminent Preceptor, E.Kt. Rob Taylor, opening the Preceptory in due and ancient form. He was ably assisted throughout by the Provincial Priors Bodyguard, whose presence added dignity and ceremony to the evening.
The meeting was formally opened, and the Preceptory had the honour of receiving the representative of the Provincial Prior, E.Kt. Stephen Wood. In a special moment of recognition, E.Kt. Wood presented two Malta Certificates to Knights Dullingham and Robert Thurston, acknowledging their continued commitment and progress within the Order.
The principal business of the evening then followed, as E.Kt. Rob Taylor conducted the Installation Ceremony, placing Knight Robert Thurston into the Chair of the Preceptory in accordance with long-standing custom and tradition. The ceremony was carried out with solemnity and precision, culminating in the customary salutes to the newly Installed Eminent Knight.
Having assumed the Chair, Eminent Knight Robert Thurston then proceeded to appoint and install the officers of the Preceptory for the ensuing year, entrusting them with their respective duties and responsibilities.
The Preceptory was subsequently closed and reopened in the Degree of Malta, where the Installation proceedings and investiture of officers were conducted in a similar and equally impressive manner. The ceremony was then brought to a close by the newly Installed Prior.
A particularly memorable feature of the evening was the expertly organised recession, arranged by E.Kt. Lee Freeman, with the Provincial Priors Bodyguard providing a striking Arch of Steel, lending a fitting and ceremonial conclusion to the formal proceedings.
Following the close of the meeting, the Knights assembled for the Festive Board, where an atmosphere of warmth, fellowship, and good humour prevailed. It was an excellent opportunity for camaraderie, reflection, and the strengthening of the bonds that unite the members of the Order.
The evening proved to be a resounding success—rich in tradition, ceremony, and fraternity—and all present will no doubt look forward to the year ahead under the leadership of Eminent Knight Robert Thurston.
